Tie Down’s Quick Set Anchor and Greenfield’s Slip Ring Anchor have used a design with a slip ring and slip lock shank. The slip ring design insures proper set regardless of which way the anchor lands. A slip design also allows easy retrieval in snag prone areas.

Federal law requires recreational boaters to carry one US coast guard approved life jacket (also known as a Personal Floatation Device P.D.F.) for each person on the boat. These jackets must be in good condition and the correct size for the wearer. Any boat 16ft and longer (except canoes and kayaks) must also carry one throwable PFD (Type IV PFD).

The coast guard also states that the PDF’s must be wearable and readily accessible. The PDF’s must be in a spot that the wearer could put them on in a reasonable amount of time in an emergency (vessel sinking, on fire, etc.).
- They should not be stowed in plastic bags, in locked or closed compartments or have other gear stowed on top of them.
- The best PFD is the one you will wear.
- Though not required, a PFD should be worn at all times when the vessel is underway. A wearable PFD can save your life, but only if you wear it.
- Throwable devices must be immediately available for use.

Last night while watching the news i heard the new buzzword for this year Staycation. The definition is to get away on a vacation but stay close to home.

After thinking about it a little while I realized thats exactly what boaters do. We don’t need to go see Mickey Mouse, Planet Hollywood or any other hot spot. We get to take a vacation every weekend to our favorite river lake, or ocean.

Instead of waiting in line to ride the next roller coaster we wait or turn for the tube, waterski or wakeboard. These are precious times that we truly get to spend with family and friends. Times and memories that will last a lifetime. So the next time your out on your boat remember your on Boatcation.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT PITCH PROPELLER

For safety and efficiency performance, it is critical that your engine operates within the RPM range recommended by the manufacturer. Matching the right prop for the load is the most significant factor when choosing a new propeller. Your old propeller will have the diameter and pitch stamped on the old propeller. The second number is the pitch. If you want to change your pitch you will have to determine your Wide Open Throttle (WOT) RPM.
