Interlux Micron CF Bottom Paint
Antifouling Copper-Free Paint- with Econea
Micron® CF features all the fantastic benefits of Micron technology-without copper. Micron CF is your multi season antifouling solution with its Biolux® Slime Blocking Technology to combat slime and Econea™ to ward off barnacles and zebra mussels. Micron CF features self polishing that reduces paint build- up and the self-smoothing paint reduces friction and improves fuel efficiency. Micron CF is available in 4 bright colors including Shell White as well as a crisp black. A high solids formulation, Micron CF offers reduced solvent emissions and is VOC compliant. Safe on all hull materials.
- No sanding or prep work required.
- Copper free formula
- Haul & Relaunch without repainting
- Reduced solvent emissions
- Touch dry – 1 hour; Dry to overcoat – 2 hours; Dry to launch – 6 hours minimum
- VOC compliant
Why Micron technology?
Micron Technology is the basis of all Micron bottom paints and the formulations are second to none. Micron Technology was first introduced to the industry in the early 80's and has evolved into the class leading antifouling paints.
- Longest lasting, multi-season ability to haul and re-launch without repainting
- Controlled polishing like a bar of soap reduces paint build up, eliminating the need for sanding
- Micron Technology polishes to a smoother surface than hard antifoulings - maximizing fuel savings
- Unlike old fashion high copper bottom paints, Micron uses less copper more efficiently for longest lasting antifouling protection
Micron Technology vs old fashioned hard antifoulings
After many years of using old fashioned hard high copper bottom paints, the paint film continues to build up, become brittle, and starts to crack and flake off. Micron Technology antifoulings polish at a controlled rate and therefore will never build up. It is this controlled polishing that enables Micron to be used on all boats, in all waters, and at all times! No paint build up means that you will never have to remove old layers of Micron and spend precious hours or money each time you want to repaint.
Micron Technology and fuel savings
There's another added benefit to controlled polishing: fuel savings! The roughness caused by old fashioned hard high copper bottom paints creates extra drag on boat bottoms requiring the use of more horsepower. With extra horsepower comes extra fuel consumption, extra fuel consumption means more money at the fuel pump. There is only one way to ensure that the bottom is smooth and that is to choose Micron Technology. Micron Technology antifouling polishes at a controlled rate leaving your bottom smooth - remember the smoother the bottom paint, the lower the resistance; the lower the surface resistance the better the fuel economy.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES: In Good Condition with Pacifica or Trilux 33: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. TBT Copolymers: If these coatings are more than a year old, wet sand the surface with 80 (grit) grade paper to a clean, firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue. Apply 1-2 coats of TBT Sealer. Sand surface with 80 grade (grit) paper to a clean firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue. Non-TBT Copolymers: Apply 1 coat of Primocon. Hard Antifoulings: Sand surface with 80 grade (grit) paper to a clean firmly attached surface. Remove sanding residue. Apply Micron CF. In Poor Condition: Remove antifouling paint in poor condition with Interstrip Semi-Paste 299E. Sand and wipe clean with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
BARE FIBERGLASS: It is very important that bare fiberglass be properly prepared to completely remove the mold release wax. This will prevent delamination of the antifouling paint. Begin by scrubbing the surface thoroughly with a stiff brush using soap and water to remove loose dirt and contamination. Flush with fresh water to remove the soap residue and allow to dry. Remove mold release wax using one of the following Interlux products, Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 following the product label instructions. To be certain the contamination has been removed, run water over the surface. If the water beads up or separates, repeat cleaning process. When the water sheets off, all contamination has been removed. After the surface has been properly cleaned, follow one of the application systems below. No Sand System - Apply one thin, continuous coat of Interprotect 2000E or Fiberglass No-Sand Primer. Sanding System - Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue and wipe with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
BARE WOOD: Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Apply first coat reduced 10% with Special Thinner 216. Fill seams, if necessary, with Seam Compound Brown 30.
UNDERWATER METAL PARTS: Sandblast or sand with medium grade (grit) emery cloth to a bright metal finish and wipe clean. Apply one coat of Interprotect 2000E that has been thinned 15-20% with Reducing Solvent 2316N. Apply the Interprotect the same day as blasting or sanding. When the Interprotect 2000E is thumbprint tacky apply the first coat of Micron CF. Apply 2-3 coats of Micron CF following the proper dry times.
APPLICATION INFORMATION: At least 2 coats should be applied. Apply an extra stripe coat in areas of high wear such as chines, rudders, sterngear and any leading edges. Thinning Do not exceed 10% maximum. Airless Spray Pressure: 170-204 bar/2500-3000 psi. Tip Size: 0.53 mm/0.021" Conventional Spray Pressure: 3.44-4.47 bar/50-65 psi (gun pressure); 10-15 psi (pot pressure). Tip Size: 1.8-2.2 mm/0.071-0.087" Other To prevent premature failure, ensure correct amount of paint is applied using the coverage as a guide. Apply to clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces only. Surface must be dry and clean, and free from grease, loose paint etc. Do not apply Micron CF directly to aluminum. All metal surfaces must be primed with Interprotect 2000E/2001E or Primocon. Do not apply direct to tin-based paint such as Micron® 33, Micron® 44 or Tri-Lux® IIT.
