1989 XR4 Mercury 150 HP

My motor won't idle and when I put it in gear, and increase the throttle it acts like it bogs down. Any ideas of what may be causing this. I have cleaned the carbs and gas tank for suspended material. I changed the spark plugs also.
My mechanic has determined this problem to be a failed power pack for one side, cylinders 1,3,5 were not firing.

Check spark & compression all cylinders with in 10 %of each other min of 125 psi then check sync & link look in a manual for procedure make sure the adjuustments are correct also check timing w/idle compensator disconnected if all this checks out then look into checking the the lower crank seal on the the powerhead by the powerhead adapter the last item is the worse case senario good luck ps make sure your bleed lines are clean clear and in the correct position
