    Cool 2002 Merc 50hp Outboard Oil Injected

    What purpose does a thermostat serve on an 50hp outboard? I would think that you would want water running through the engine at any temp.

    Thermostat controls the flow of water through the motor to maintain the correct temperature for optimal running.
