Hard shifting into neutral

Hello, I have an 1988 OMC 2.3 sterndrive. I am having problems getting it to shift from foward back to neutral with the enging running. It will go into foward and reverse just fine but will "hang" up going back to neutral, almost like a cable bind. But when the engine is off, no hang up or bind, it will shift back perfectly. The shift problem only happens with the engine running. I have to kill the engine to go to neutral. Thanks in advance for any help!

Problem fixed! Replaced the shift assist module which reduces engine power taking the load off the gears allowing it to shift into neutral.
