Question Cavitation,

I have been having trouble with my boat not gripping at 3/4 to full throttle. The motor "races"especially on turns. I have been reading about cavitation and it sounds like that it what I have. Checking the depth of my motor, it looks like the Plate is very close to the bottom, sighting down the keel the plate looks right there. The keel stops about 14" short of the transom. I have a feeling I need to go down with my motor but dont't know how much. Can anyone help me, I can go down about 1" buy cutting the transom down, or would smart tabs on the back of the boat take care of the problem. Thanks for your help.

Your cavitation plate should be even or very close to even with the bottom of your transom, are you sure the prop is not slipping on the hub?

cavitation problems

thanks for the reply, I don't think the prop is slipping. It seems to happen more when turning left than right (I have more weight on the right side. I took my brother who is about my same weight with me last time and moved him around on the opposite side and when the weight was ballenced better, the motor didn't race nearly as much. My motor is centered and bolted fast.
