Teleflex Safe-T QC Steering Cable SSC62

The SSC62 Steering Cable is a standard quick connect rotary steering cable. It features a snap connector for easy installation and a trapped nut that stays in place during cable routing. Featuring the patented Quick Connect Cable hook-ups, the Teleflex QC II Replacement Steering Cable Assemblies are intended to replace the Teleflex SSC62 (used in Safe-T QC & NFB Systems) and SSC72 (used in Safe-T TS & Big-T Systems). These assemblies have been designed to fit most post-1968 Teleflex rotary helms. Teleflex steering cables are intended for use with inboards, outboards, and stern drives with either single or twin motors.

Teleflex SSC62 Safe-T Steering Cable Features:

  • Cable output ends made from durable, non-corrosive stainless steel
  • Trapped nut engine connection stays in place during cable routing
  • Its tightly controlled core-to-conduit fit offers very precise steering
  • Teleflex steering cables are ABYC-compliant, ISO/IMCI/NMMA certified
  • Teleflex steering cables use fast, simple, and effective snap-in connectors. Use Teleflex Quick Connect (QC) cable and standard Safe-T mounting hardware

SSC62 Teleflex Steering Cable fits the following helms:

SH5150P, SH4910P, SH4920P, SH5094-1P, SH91190P, SH91526P, SH91527P, SH91523-1P

How to Measure Steering Cables Accurately:

Replacement of Existing Cable: If possible, locate the part number stamped on the plastic jacket of the old cable. If the old cable has been removed, you will have toi measure for its replacement as follows:

For Rotary Steering Cable Replacement, Measure Existing Cable as follows: Measure plastic cable jacket (“Y” dimension, shown in above drawing) in inches, add 18″, and round up to the next foot. Order that length cable.

New Installation: Measure cable routing path from wheel center line to engine connection, as follows:

A = Centerline of wheel to gunwale (or deck, if routed downward)

B = Dash to transom

C = Gunwale to the centerline of cable connection at the centered tiller.

For Cable Installations through the Engine Tilt Tube: Add A, B & C + 6″, then round up to the next foot. Order that length cable.

For Cables Mounted to Transom, Splashwell, or Stringer: Add A, B & C, then subtract 6″ and round up to the next foot. Order that length cable.

The above diagram illustrates a single-cable, starboard drive push-pull mechanical cable system. For different systems, or you have any questions about mechanical steering, please contact Teleflex (Mechanical) Technical Service at (610)-495-7011 or www.teleflexmarine.com

Cable routings (such as those found on pontoon boats) may vary from this drawing. Confirm length by laying a garden hose or similar object) along the cable path and measure the run from the wheel to the engine connection point.
