      There are various types of materials used for anchor rodes. A popular choice is nylon because of its strength and elasticity. The Maxwell 8-Plait Nylon Anchor Rode is a superb choice for windlass applications. It is an 8-strand nylon rope manufactured with braid technology for durability and flexibility to provide the proper energy absorption for keeping your vessel secure. Keep in mind that when selecting the proper rope length and diameter, multiply the deepest water you expect to anchor in by 8, and the rope diameter should have ⅛” for every 9’ of the length of your boat.

      Another great material for rodes is a combination of chain and rope. Trac Outdoor offers an option in 200 and 300 feet choices. It is made with durable nylon double braided rope and a G43 galvanized short-link marine chain for maximum hold. When selecting a rope and chain combination, a good rule of thumb is 10 to 30 feet of chain length along with your rope will suffice in most situations.
