      MerCruiser Anodes

There is nothing like spending time out on the water, however, over time this can be detrimental to various components on every vessel. Over time, anything made of metal that is immersed or kept in damp or humid conditions will degrade. This corrosive action extends even to boat engine parts. To protect metal parts of a boat or motor from this ultimately destructive action, also known as electrolytic, boaters use anodes made of an activated alloy. The purpose of the anode is to “distract” corrosion from shafts, propellers, rudders, drive parts, and other fittings, including pitting of metal elements on decks and other topside locations. The anode will corrode and eventually dissolve, while important boat components remain untouched. Anodes are worthwhile investments no boat should be without!

As you might expect from the company that stocks a comprehensive selection of OEM and aftermarket Mercury outboard parts, Wholesale Marine carries a wide selection of high quality MerCruiser anodes that have been specifically designed to protect nearly every MerCruiser model made. These anodes are available in zinc, aluminum, and magnesium. Here’s how to tell which you’ll need for your MerCruiser:

      • Zinc Alloy MerCruiser Anodes = Salt water only
      • Not recommended for use in freshwater
      • Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-18001K)
      • Aluminum Alloy MerCruiser Anodes = Salt or Brackish water
      • Not recommended for use in freshwater
      • Due to its increased capacity, this anode version is proven to last longer than zinc
      • Alloy is manufactured to meet or exceed US Military Specification (MIL-A-24779(SH))
      • Magnesium Alloy MerCruiser Anodes = Fresh water only
      • Not recommended for use in salt or brackish water
      • This is the only alloy that is proven to protect your boat in freshwater

Wholesale Marine also cautions that boaters never use zinc and aluminum anodes on the same vessel.
