Guide to Buying the Right Waterskis

Guide to Buying the Right Waterskis

A perennially popular water sport, water skiing is actually harder than it looks, but is well worth taking the time to master. To begin, you need two important pieces of equipment- your personal waterskis and a flotation vest. Before your first lesson, Wholesale Marine wants you to be certain that you have the right skis and vest. Here is our guide to selecting the right skis for you.

There are many classifications of water skier. Few of us will ever compete or be sufficiently advanced in the sport to require the best slalom skis available. Most will be life-long First-Timers, Novices or Intermediate-Level Skiers. Skiers in these categories will likely be towed at under 30 MPH. The best option for these skiers will be wide-body or cruiser skis. This equipment provides the greatest stability and makes deep water starts much easier. They provide great lift and many novices appreciate that their skis make them appear to be more proficient waterskiers than they are.

How to Select Skis for Every Family Member

Anyone who has tried downhill skiing knows that the skiers height and weight are key factors in selecting the right length waterski. Then there are three additional factors to consider: Base Concave, the shaping on the bottom or the ski, Edge Bevel, the degree at which the bottom joins the side rail to blend the bottom and the side seamlessly, and Stiffness, just the right amount of flex for optimal performance with minimal user fatigue.

When selecting equipment, youll likely need professional advice on which waterskis are right for you and each member of your family. Wholesale Marines customer service representatives will be glad to assist you in making your selection. We carry combo, trainer and slalom skis, ski bindings, gloves, vests, ropes and handles and water ski bags and accessories. Not sure this is the right sport for every family member? No problem: small children and older adults can emulate the experience using a tube or similar equipment.
