Interlux Bilgekote Bilge Enamel Marine Paint

Interlux Bilgekote is a fast drying, durable coating formulated for application to bilge areas. This paint helps prevent absorption of oil, gasoline or sludge into wood and fiberglass. Features a semi gloss finish and is available in white or gray.

How to Apply Interlux Bilgekote Marine Paint

  • Application Method: Brush, roller, or spray
  • Number of Coats: Two coats minimum
  • Coverage: 450 sq. ft./gal.
  • Thinner: Brushing Liquid 333 or Special Thinner 216

Surface Preparation

  • Bare Fiberglass In Good Condition:
    • Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush.
    • Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry.
    • Degrease with YMA601V Fiberglass Surface Prep.
    • Sand with 180 grade paper. Remove sanding residue.
  • Bare Fiberglass In Poor Condition:
    • Clean as above.
    • Sand with 80 grade paper then remove sanding residue.
    • Apply 1-2 coats of Pre-Kote primer.
    • Sand each coat with 120 grit sandpaper then remove sanding residue.
  • Bare Wood
    • Sand surface then wipe clean.
    • Apply Pre-Kote, sand surface and wipe clean.
  • Bare Metal
    • Sandblast or grind, remove sanding residue.
    • Within 1 hour of abrasion, apply 1 coat of Interprotect 2000E thinned 15-20%.
    • Following the overcoating guidelines for Interprotect 2000E. Apply 1-2 coats of Pre-Kote.
  • Clear Epoxy
    • Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water and a stiff brush.
    • Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry.
    • Degrease with YMA601V Fiberglass Surface Prep.
    • Sand with 80 grit paper then remove sanding residue.
    • Apply one coat of Epoxy Primekote or Interprotect 2000E.
  • Previously Painted Surfaces
    • The surface must be clean and dry.
    • Sand using 180-220 grit paper, then remove sanding residue.

Application

  • Apply 2-3 coats of Bilgekote following the proper dry times.
  • Sand between coats using 220-230 grit paper, then remove sanding residue.
  • Bilgekote may be applied by roller and brush using the roll and tip method.
  • Bilgekote may also be applied by spray.
