When your Johnson outboard isn't properly tuned or running correctly, your pistons and rings can wear and sustain damage over time. Piston failure is most commonly caused by lack of lubrication, which causes piston to cylinder seizures. If your pistons and rings have been damaged by overheating or carbon buildup, you may need to purchase a kit to replace all of the components.

These kits include a piston, rings, a wrist pin, and circlips. If your rings are the only component damaged, you can purchase those separately as well.
