Interlux Primers

Most boaters who have worked with marine paint will tell you that preparing your surface for paint is essential. Interlux primers have been developed to make the surface of your boat ready for paint. It provides a base that is essential for the preparation of your boat’s surface. When you use an Interlux primer your surface will look great and the paint will adhere to the surface better. The primer will create a base surface that will allow your paint to last longer. We carry a large assortment of Interlux primers to fit any job. Interlux primers can be broken down into two categories; fiberglass and metal.

Metal Primers: Preparing your metal hull with the correct primer is necessary not only for the preservation of your metal, but also for the bottompaint to adhere and work effectively. Aluminum and steel hulls typically need to be cleaned, sandblasted, primered, and then coated with antifouling paint, such as Interlux’s Trilux 33. Normally multiple coats of both primer and paint are required for desirable results. Depending on the primer and paint, there are time tables that need to be followed closely, so planning ahead is a must.

Fiberglass Primers: Priming your fiberglass hull prior to painting not only helps the antifouling paint adhere, but also helps protect your hull from water damage. If you are repainting and unsure what was originally used, Interlux recommends using Primcon.
