How to Use the Pela 650 6.5 Liter Oil Extractor

  • Warm up the oil by running the engine. This will allow the contaminates to mix and to suspend in the oil.
  • Remove the dipstick. If you can't hole the dipstick comfortably in your hands, then the oil is too hot! Wait for the oil to cool off a bit.
  • Select and insert the appropriate diameter extraction tube into the dipstick pipe until it touches the bottom of the oil pan.
  • Connect the main tube to the top of the unit and to the extraction tube.
  • Pump the handle 4-15 times in a row to start the vacuum. The unit will extract the oil automatically. Continuous pumping is not required.
  • After the oil has been extracted, press the release valve located at the top of the unit for 5 seconds.
  • Remove the main tube.
  • When pouring the oil into a container, hold the pump as in the photo and pour gently. Do not hold it upside down!
  • Bring the used oil to a recycling depot.

Note: No special cleaning is required on the unit. Just empty as much oil as possible (do not store oil long term).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pela 650 6.5 Liter Marine Oil Change Pump used for?

The Pela 650 Marine Oil Change Pump is designed to extract oil from marine engines through the dipstick pipe. Its vacuum-operated design requires only 4 to 15 handle strokes to begin extraction, after which the unit continues drawing oil without continuous pumping.

How much oil can the Pela 650 Marine Oil Change Pump hold?

The Pela 650 has a 6.5-liter (6.87-quart) capacity. Its transparent, calibrated container allows you to monitor the amount of oil extracted while the built-in float switch automatically stops the extraction process when the container reaches capacity.

What size extraction tubes are included with the Pela 650?

The Pela 650 includes 47-inch-long extraction tubes with 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch outside diameters, along with a 39-inch extension tube. Select the appropriate diameter tube and insert it into the dipstick pipe until it reaches the bottom of the oil pan.

How do you use the Pela 650 Marine Oil Change Pump?

Warm the engine oil, remove the dipstick, and insert the appropriate extraction tube into the dipstick pipe. Connect the main tube, then pump the handle 4 to 15 times to create a vacuum. The pump will automatically extract the oil without continuous pumping. Follow the supplied procedure for releasing the vacuum and emptying the unit.

Does the Pela 650 automatically stop when it is full?

Yes. The Pela 650 has a built-in float switch designed to automatically stop the extraction process when the container reaches capacity. Its transparent housing also provides a clear view of the extracted oil, while the calibrated container indicates how much oil has been collected.

How should the Pela 650 be emptied and stored after extracting oil?

After extraction, release the vacuum using the release valve for 5 seconds and remove the main tube. Pour the collected oil gently into an appropriate container without holding the pump upside down. No special cleaning is required; empty as much oil as possible and do not store oil in the unit long term.
