Guide to Buying Water Tubes for Your Family

Tubing has been popular for many decades, but to date, has not been included as an Olympic demonstration sport! This is likely due to the fact that almost anyone of any age and athletic ability can enjoy riding them. The tubes almost non-existent learning curve is also the reason they are the most popular type of towables available. Here is a run-down of the different types and their general purposes to provide assistance in making the right buying decision for every family.

Popular Types ofWater Tubes

Single-Rider Tubes

These are best suited for performing tricks and are among the most affordable tubes. They accept standard strength towing line and a standard towing harness. Due to their smaller size than other tubes, single-riders are easier to store as well.

Double-Riders

Intended for a maximum of two riders, these tubes are a bit more unwieldy than singles, and a bit slower, but still very popular.

Multi-Rider Tubes

Depending on their design, these tubes can support up to 6 adults. These are great for families as persons of differing ages and sizes can easily be accommodated (weight must be evenly distributed). It is not for stunt or trick riding, just slower towing. However, towables are bigger, bulkier to store, and more expensive than any other type of tubing.

Deck Tubes

Flat like an air mattress, these tubes are intended for high speed towing, which is great during the dog days of summer!

Sled Tubes

Also called banana or hotdogs, these are tubes that are straddled and are the fastest type of multi-rider towables.

Ride-In Tubes

These are similar to small inflatable boats which, by definition cradle the rider. Many novelty tubes fall under this category.
