Add to CartQuicksilver's Mercury Gen I Platinum+ Throttle & Shift Cable delivers reliable performance with its larger diameter construction and 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for added strength. The high-efficiency inner core design provides smoother shifting, while nickel-plated fittings and a sealed lubrication system resist corrosion in harsh marine environments. This replacement cable works with Gen I Mercury controls and offers straightforward installation. Replace your cable when you notice excessive free play, stiffness, chafing, or damaged components to maintain precise throttle and shift control on your boat.
Features:
When to replace a cable: Quicksilver recommends replacing your cable when excessive free play or stiffness is felt at the control. If there are chafed, broken, bent, or loose parts, replace the cable.

Replacement:
This is a remote control cable that connects your helm's throttle and shift control box to the engine, transmitting your lever inputs directly to the engine's throttle and gear mechanisms. It's used for both throttle (engine speed) and shift (forward/neutral/reverse) functions. One cable typically handles throttle, the other handles shifting. Both are usually replaced together when servicing an aging control system.
This cable is for Gen I Mercury control boxes. Mercury Gen I and Gen II cables use different end connections and are not interchangeable. Before ordering, confirm your control box is a Gen I type. Gen I controls are found on older Mercury and MerCruiser applications using traditional side-mount or top-mount throttle controls.
If you're replacing an existing cable, measure the old cable from tip to tip and subtract 7 inches per Quicksilver's specification. That's your replacement length. If you're doing a new installation, measure the actual routing path from the control head to the engine's throttle/shift attachment point along the cable route, then add 18 inches for outboard applications. Cables are available in lengths from 10 to 18 feet.
The Platinum+ features a larger diameter construction with a 100% wire-wrapped outer conduit for increased strength and durability, an improved high-efficiency inner core for smoother shifting, nickel-plated fittings for corrosion resistance, and a sealed lubrication system that protects the internal components over time. These are meaningful upgrades over basic OEM-style replacements, especially in saltwater or high-cycle applications.
Quicksilver recommends replacement when you notice excessive free play or stiffness at the control lever, difficulty shifting into gear, delayed throttle response, or any chafed, broken, bent, or loose components on the cable or fittings. Cables should also be inspected annually and replaced proactively if corrosion or jacket damage is visible, as a failed cable can leave you without throttle or shift control on the water.
