Tuff Coat Rubberized Non-Skid Marine Submersible Deck Coating - Gallon

Tuff Coat Rubberized Non-Skid Coating is a single component, flexible, water-based non-skid coating designed to create a long-lasting, slip-resistant surface in wet or dry environments. This updated formulation is created through a unique process of cross-linking urethanes, acrylics, co-polymers, and recycled rubber granules to produce an attractive, durable, impact-resistant finish.

Ideal for boats, docks, ramps, deck surfaces, splash pads, kiddie pools, wave pools, spray parks, restroom floors, natatoriums, and other areas requiring added slip resistance, Tuff Coat provides a flexible non-slip surface that can be used in or out of water. Once applied, the finish dries to approximately 30-35 mils thick, helping hide surface imperfections while improving existing non-skid finishes for added safety.

This low-odor, one-part coating is exceptionally easy to apply and cleans up with soap and water. For best results, apply using a Tuff Coat roller or low-pressure hopper spray gun. Tuff Coat is chemical and UV resistant, highly durable, impact resistant, and made with recycled rubber granules for a comfortable, non-abrasive textured finish.

How to Apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating

Tuff Coat Application Steps

Prior to applying Tuff Coat, stir thoroughly before use and stir periodically during application to maintain the rubber granules in suspension. Dilute the product with clean water only if needed. A 10% dilution will reduce the solids within the product by the same amount. To avoid cracking, do not allow Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating to pool and do not apply excessively thick coats.

Note: It is recommended that you perform a test patch to ensure adhesion before applying fully.

Surface Preparation

Concrete

  • Must be fully cured.
  • If a concrete surface has a porous texture, no further surface preparation is necessary.
  • If the concrete surface is not porous, acid etching, sanding, or shot blasting is necessary. Make sure to use a light acid etch and remove all remaining acid with soap, water, and a scrub brush.
  • Concrete should be completely clean and dry.
  • Patch all imperfections, cracks, etc. with concrete patch filler and flexible joint fillers.
  • Do not use silicone products, as Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating will not adhere to silicone.
  • Prime with CP-10 as per instructions on the label. Once the primer has properly cured, apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating.

Painted Surfaces

  • Aggressively roughen the surface by sanding with 36 or 40 grit sandpaper. The surface must be rough for proper adhesion.
  • Clean the surface of all oils, grease, dirt, silicone, and other contaminants. Leave no residue.
  • Inspect for any imperfections or delamination of previously painted surfaces.
  • Prime with CP-10, then apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating.

Asphalt

  • Clean surface by pressure washing.
  • Ensure that the surface is completely dry before applying asphalt primer.
  • Apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating after the primer has cured.

Steel and Aluminum

  • All bare metal substrates should be appropriately primed after being treated for rust or removal of old paint.
  • All smooth metal should be cleaned and aggressively roughed by sanding with 36 or 40 grit sandpaper or by acid etching. Acid etching is recommended.
  • Clean and dry surface thoroughly.
  • Prime with MP-10, then apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating.

Rubber

  • Sand with 36 or 40 grit sandpaper.
  • Clean and dry surface thoroughly.
  • Prime with rubber primer, then apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating.

Plywood, Lumber, and Treated Lumber

  • New lumber needs no sanding. Old lumber requires sanding with 36 or 40 grit sandpaper.
  • Remove any peeling, cracking, or chipping paint, varnish, or sealer.
  • Ensure that the surface is clean and dry before priming with CP-10.
  • Finish by applying Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating.

Fiberglass

  • To ensure good adhesion, sand the surface aggressively using 36 or 40 grit paper to remove all gloss from the substrate.
  • Ensure that the surface is free of waxes and other protective additives.
  • Ensure that the surface is clean and dry before priming with CP-10.
  • Apply Tuff Coat Rubberized Deck Coating after the primer has cured.

Application Methods:

Roller

  • Use a Tuff Coat texture roller capable of lifting the rubber granules within the product to the surface.
  • Pour product into the paint tray and completely saturate the roller.
  • Apply the first coat as a thin coat. Resaturate the roller after each pass.
  • Make 4-5 consecutive passes in the same direction, with each pass right next to the other.
  • When applying, roll in one direction first, then roll in the opposite direction.
  • Once an area is covered, run the roller very lightly over it to ensure even color and rubber granule distribution.

Spray

  • Use a low-pressure hopper spray gun recommended for Tuff Coat application.
  • Spray water to prime the gun before applying coating.
  • Hold the gun approximately 12-24 inches away from the surface and spray an even, light coat over the entire surface.
  • Keep the spray gun at a 90 degree angle to the surface.
