      Over time, salt spray, humidity, and UV rays take their toll on many boat systems, even those that are not readily visible. That is why it is so important to routinely check your Mercruiser spark plugs, wires, and wiring harness for signs that its service life is over. If your plugs are pitted and your engine performance has diminished, their replacement is a no-brainer. With wiring it is a bit harder to tell.

      There are two schools of thought here. Those boaters who push the envelope and replace their Mercruiser sparks and wiring only when one or both fail, and those who watch their engine hours and replace each according to their manufacturer’s recommendations.
