Add to CartWhen looking to replace Mercury Control Cables, those that provide smooth operation without excess motion are recommended. With it’s unique splined core Xtreme control cables deliver that effortless smoothness and efficiency - with hardly any lost motion - even in the longest and most complex cable routings. This provides a superior feel at the control and delivers unparalleled performance.
Direct replacement for Teleflex Marine CCX179 series original factory control cables. SeaStar Solutions replaced Teleflex Marine and has been acquired by Dometic Group.

Features:
This cable fits Mercury and MerCruiser engines from 1965 to present, Force engines from 1993 forward with Mercury controls, and Mariner engines with Mercury/Mariner controls (except pre-1993 40 HP and smaller — those use the CC210 Mariner cable). It replaces 600A-type Mercury cables and uses 10/32 threaded ends.
No. The CCX179 cannot be used with 4000-series controls. If your boat has a Mercury Gen II control system (typically 2003 and newer), you need the CCX189 Gen II cable instead. Using the wrong cable type will result in improper fitment and unreliable throttle or shift operation. If you're unsure which control you have, check the model designation on the control head or contact us at 877-388-2628.
All three names refer to the same product lineage. Teleflex Marine developed the CCX179, then became SeaStar Solutions, which was subsequently acquired by Dometic Group. The cable is currently branded as a SeaStar/Dometic product but is fully compatible with all legacy Teleflex 600A-series Mercury installations. The brand change has no effect on fit or function.
For a new outboard installation, measure from the control head attachment point along the unobstructed routing path to the center of the outboard motor, then add 4 feet to allow for the loop that provides unrestricted engine movement. Round up to the next foot. For sterndrive applications, measure from the control to the shift and/or throttle connection and round up to the next foot, no loop allowance is needed. For replacing an existing cable, check the length stamped on the jacket of the old cable. Cables are available from 6 to 60 feet.
The Xtreme CCX179 uses a patent-pending splined core that fits closely within the cable liner, minimizing lost motion (the slack between helm input and engine response). This is noticeable on long cable runs, dual-station setups, or installations with multiple bends. The standard CC179 is only available in 10–24 ft lengths; the Xtreme version extends the range to 6–60 ft, making it the only option for longer or more complex routings. No adapter kits are required.
The CCX179 Xtreme has a 4-inch minimum bend radius. Routing the cable tighter than this during installation causes friction, stiffness, and accelerated wear. The 4-inch rating gives more flexibility than older-style cables with larger minimums, making it easier to navigate tight routing paths through a boat's helm area.
