Description

West System 105 Epoxy Resin

Epoxy Resin has been a part of the marine industry since the 1980s and is known for its strong bonding and adhesive qualities. They are some of the strongest resins available and are widely used because of their ability to adhere to a wider variety of surfaces including metal, wood, and fiberglass. West System is a leading manufacturer of adhesive products and has been helping boaters since 1969.

West System epoxy manufactures a variety of epoxy compounds, however, all West System epoxy compounds use the West System 105 epoxy resin as their base. It adheres to many surfaces and shears easily, which allows it to dry into hard, solid plastic. It will not shrink after curing. The West system 105 epoxy resin is designed to reinforce materials such as fabrics and metals and bridge the gap between materials. It is easy to apply with a roller and has no strong solvent odor when applying.

Product Features:

  • Viscosity: 1000 Centipose at 72° F
  • Thin Film
  • Self levels
  • Formulated for use with Wood fiber, Fiberglass, reinforcing fabrics, and numerous metals
  • Will not shrink after it is cured.
  • Volatile solvent-free, therefore safer than polyester or vinyl resins
  • Cures in a wide temperature range
  • Excellent moisture resistance

*Epoxy cures faster in warmer temperatures and in thicker applications. Epoxy cures slower in cooler temperatures and in thinner applications. All times are estimates.

Each WEST SYSTEM Epoxy hardener has an ideal temperature cure range. At any given temperature, each epoxy resin/hardener combination will go through the same cure stages but at different rates of speed. Base your hardener selection on the amount of working time you’ll need for the job you’ll be doing at the temperature conditions you’ll be working under. The hardener selection guide and epoxy hardener container labels describe hardener pot lives and cure times.

The data we provide pot life is based on 100 grams or 4 pump strokes each of resin and hardener using our 300 mini pumps. If you are using a larger amount of epoxy or a different size of mixing pot the length of pot life can vary. To increase the pot life of a cup of mixed epoxy, spread it over a larger surface area, work in a cooler environment, or mix multiple, smaller batches as you go.
