Wholesale Marine is proud to carry a great selection of Interlux antifouling paint. Antifouling paints fall into one of three categories: hard, ablative and controlled solubility copolymers, but known as CSC. There are a number of variables to consider when choosing which antifouling paint best suits your needs.

Hard Antifouling paint: The technical term for this type of paint is called contact leaching. The biocides in this style paint leach out once in the water to prevent growth. Biocides will steadily be released throughout the season until the biocide is exhausted. The paint will stay on the boat, but not have any further antifouling qualities. Hard antifouling paint will lose its effectiveness if your vessel is pulled from the water, so it is mainly used on larger boats that stay the season in their slips. One of the benefits of hard antifouling paint is it’s resistance to rubbing and abrasions. Interlux’s hard paints include; Ultra w/Biolux, Bottomkote, VC-17M, Epoxycop, Trilux 33 and VC Offshore.

Ablative Antifouling: Ablative paint not only provides superb antifouling qualities, but also retains its effectiveness if it’s allowed to dry, making it the best choice for trailered boats. Ablative paint also wears away with use, greatly reducing your prep time when repainting. Ablative paint can also be applied over the majority of other antifouling paints. Interlux’s Fiberglass ACT is a great example of an ablative paint.

Controlled Solubility Copolymers (CSC): CSC antifouling paint has many of the same qualities as ablative, but wears off at a controlled rate, constantly releasing fresh biocides. For this reason, CSC paint is commonly used in the worst antifouling conditions. The longevity of the paint directly relates to the thickness that the paint was applied. Micron CSC and Micron Extra are two great examples of a CSC paint.
