How to Winterize a Boat: Made Easy with Wholesale Marine
To start the process, it is important to change the oil to protect your engine from rust and corrosion. The Jabsco Little Pal Marine Oil Change Pump is a multipurpose hand pump that can be used to drain engine oil from your engine. We also carry a full line of marine engine oil and oil filters. It is also a good idea to drain and replace gear oil.
Fuel systems also need to be protected, and adding a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank can help prevent the fuel from breaking down and allow contaminants to take over and cause poor engine performance. Add Sta-Bil Diesel Fuel Stabilizer and run the engine for a few minutes to treat the entire system.
Use a Complete Boat Winterization Kit

Starbrite's Marine Winterizing Kit comes with a 5 gallon tank, gate valve/cap and clear hose. You will need ear muffs or flushing attachments for your type of engine. Check marine engine owners manual for specific coolant capacity and plan accordingly.
- Fill a 5 gallon tank with the appropriate amount of desired Starbrite's Antifreeze making sure the vent cap is open.
- Once the tank is filled with antifreeze, tighten the gate valve/cap and lay tank on side with gate valve facing down.
- Place marine engine flushing attachment over engine intakes.
- Attach a clear hose to the gate valve at one end and flush the attachment at the other end.
- Open gate valve to start flow of antifreeze into clear hose.
- Start the engine and let it run at idle speed until antifreeze comes out of the exhaust/water outlet of your engine.
- Immediately shut off the engine, close the gate valve on the tank and remove the marine winterizing Kit.
- When the engine is ready to be put back into use, flush the cooling system with fresh water to remove antifreeze.
- Dispose of antifreeze in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
