      Be aware that outboard fuel pumps work differently than fuel pumps on automobile engines. Outboard pumps have a diaphragm sensor that receives a signal from a piston cylinder, so the pump can make a fuel 'delivery’. When a cylinder is leaking, however, the pump pulse signal will not be strong enough to send enough fuel to the cylinder. The good news is that most replacement fuel pumps are upgrades, not replacements, as outboard fuel pumps are highly reliable and rarely fail.
